Newborn portraiture information and pricing guide

This guide aims to provide you with detailed information on the different types of newborn sessions offered and associated pricing so you can make an informed decision. Session fee
To secure your session with Sarah Scott Photography, a $200 session fee is due upon booking. Your session fee covers your two hour studio session, access to Sarah's studio wardrobe and prop collection and pre/post session consultation via email or phone as required.
Your session fee is a separate payment to your digital collection and does not include any images, printed or digital. The session fee and digital collections are GST inclusive. Please note, if requesting a session to be held on a weekend, an additional $100 fee will apply.

My studio
When I launched Sarah Scott Photography, I knew it was going to be essential to have the PERFECT space to host my newborn sessions. A place where mums and dads could come with their new little baby and feel comfortable and safe. A place that has everything we need to make the day as efficient as possible. My boutique space has been purpose built for newborn photography. The studio has a super comfy lounge, perfect for breast feeding, and a change table to make mums and dads life a lot easier. The room is kept to 28-30 degrees which is purely for baby's sake, they like it toasty. For the nakey photos we must keep the room warm in order for baby to be completely comfortable as they can't regulate their own body temperature.
Styling your session
I have a full wall of bonnets, headbands, and tiny newborn outfits along with shelves of bean bag fabrics, wraps, and the like. I source my props from all over the world and I am constantly adding to my collection. I style your whole session in my signature neutral style, so that the focus of every image is your baby and will remain timeless.
Newborn set ups
Every baby is different and therefore so is the posing in every session. Over the two hour studio session we'll incorporate a variety of newborn set ups while following your baby's cues to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone. Planning for your newborn session
Scheduling
I typically book out anywhere between 2-4 months in advance. It is highly recommended to book your newborn session whilst still pregnant. This guarantees your session when baby arrives. Your 'due date' is penciled in then once baby arrives I ask you to contact me within the first 48 hours so we can finalise a date that suits us both.
Payment
A booking fee is required to secure a session. Please note, this payment is not a deposit towards your digitial collection. You'll indicate a preferred digital collection package (options above) which will be invoiced closer to the session date. Additional digital images and/or products can be ordered and paid for after your session date.
What to bring
1. Dummy, even if you don't use one at home, they can be very useful for settling baby purely for photos.
2. Spare nappies.
3. A loose blanket/wrap to feed baby in
4. Extra formula and bottles (if bottle fed).
5. Drinks, lunch and snacks.
What to wear
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! I only photograph top half for parent and family shots. For mum - strapless or off the shoulder tops to get skin on skin with baby, or a nice dress with texture. For dad - plain t-shirt with no prints. For siblings - match to mum and dad so everyone is coordinating.

Preparing for your newborn session
Before your session
Sessions are in the morning (exact time confirmed via email). Before the shoot, please feed baby 2-3 hours prior. Please plan on feeding baby as soon as you arrive at the studio. For the 1-2 hours prior to leaving your home to come to the session please do not let your baby sleep. Instead try giving them a bath or letting them kick with only a nappy on, tickle their toes and let them fuss for a little bit (no pacifiers). Since baby will be unclothed and unswaddled, this is not the normal routine and is likely to cause baby to become awake if they have already slept. Keeping your baby awake before the session will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures!
During your session
Once you arrive, get settled and feed baby, we will then hop straight into the fun! If you have older children I will always do the sibling/family photos first. They can get a bit bored in the studio. This allows dad to take them for a drive, a walk, or even to go home (if you live close) whilst we focus on baby.
After your session
Within a week or so, you will get to view your images in an online gallery that is password protected for your eyes only (and other family members if you wish). Photos in this gallery are raw and unedited. It is at this point that you will make your decision on which digital images you would like included based on which package you chose. You can upgrade your package at any time, or add additional images to your package.
I will then spend the next two weeks editing and putting the finishing touches on your images. This includes exposure edits, colour edits and skin retouching etc. Your finished gallery will then be ready for digital download. It is at this point that you can visit the integrated print store in your gallery to order additional prints, enlargements, wall art and albums.
